sites | classification

We have been a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) since 2006 and follow the clear classification: " The closer the origin, the higher the quality."

Our VDP.GUTSWEINE are the entry into our range of origin-based wines.

from loess

The wines come from our vineyards west of Laufen and grow on nutrient-rich, fertile loess soils.

Our VDP.ORTSWEINE come from selected vineyards in our home town of Laufen.

Laufen

The wines are characterized by loess and limestone, multifaceted and stimulating. They come from the Laufener Altenberg and from vineyards west of Laufen.

VDP.ERSTE LAGE® stands for wines from excellent, precisely defined plots.

1 of 5

Laufener Altenberg

We grow Chasselas, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir on deep limestone marl soils. The Altenberg consists of west and south-west facing slopes, stays cooler in the morning and stores the evening sun, producing flavorful, aromatic wines with well-buffered acidity.

1 of 3

Muggardter Berg

We have Chardonnay and Riesling in this location, which is characterized by limestone. The very poor soil forces the vines to have deep roots and to rely on the nutrients in the lower layers. At 400 m above sea level, right on the edge of the Black Forest and with a 35 percent slope, the climate is much cooler. The east-facing location ensures early morning warmth and a long growing season. This location, one of the few locations in the Markgräflerland suitable for Riesling, produces elegant and never heavy wines.

VDP.GROSSE LAGE® represents the top: distinctive wines from our best vineyard.

monastery vineyards

The Laufen vineyard is one of the oldest areas in Laufen and was already highly valued by the medieval monasteries. From the 2020 vintage, our Große Gewächs location will therefore be called Klosterwingerte . The purely south-facing location benefits fully from the sun's rays and is therefore our warmest location. In return, the high proportion of lime in the soil ensures cooler temperatures in the soil. Small limestones on the surface are reminiscent of Burgundy conditions, so that our Weiß, Grau and Pinot Noir, as well as Chardonnay, find optimal conditions here. The mineral, spicy wines are often closed in youth and show their full potential after appropriate maturity.
